Bartnik mass is a variational definition of quasi-local mass. Given an apparent horizon of black holes, Mantoulidis and Schoen showed that the Bartnik mass of the horizon is bounded from above by its half area radius. In this talk, we discuss analogous estimates of Bartnik mass obtained by focusing on vacuum extensions. This is joint work with Naqing Xie.
