I will describe some recent results on a new class of harmonic map that leads to an old problem in differential geometry: minimal surfaces with free boundary. I will cover their regularity theory, their approximation by Gin burg-Landau and their heat flow.
I will pay particular attention to open problems and a new program that can lead to several interesting geometric results.
