Propagating fronts with free interface have long been studied, in particular in combustion theory where the unknown interface stands for the flame front (thin flame). In contrast to Stefan problems, the speed of the moving boundary is not explicit in the formulation. Further analysis enables to relate the velocity to a combination of traces of spatial derivatives up to the second order [3]. In this respect, one may speak of  “second-order Stefan condition”.
